1958 16' Shepherd Special

"Ski-bee" Deluxe Model 70

Shepherd Boat Works was founded in 1928 by Lloyd Shepherd and his son Howard Shepherd in St. Catherine’s Ontario, Canada.  Shepherd boats were constructed with the highest quality and with their own unique design that by 1939 they open a plant in Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario to meet the increasing popularity and demand for their boats.  They were at the forefront of using the new V-drive technology that allowed them to provide more cockpit room by not sacrificing power.  Previously only distributed in Canada, by the 1950’s, they had several dealers throughout the Midwest and business thrived.  This 1958 16’ Shepherd Special “Ski-bee” Deluxe Model 70 is the perfect example of the fine craftsmanship and innovation of the V-Drive that Shepherd boats brought to this era.  After extensive research, we believe this to be the only one left in existence of this model.  Furthermore, we found some interesting history on this boat.  Sam Bernstein was the owner of Bernstein Castings Ltd. who fabricated all of Shepherds boats castings.  This boat was specifically built for him.  He replaced the 115 H.P. Chrysler Ace Special V-Drive that was offered with this model, with his own marine modified V-Drive 300 H.P. Ford Interceptor V8 out of his Ford Thunderbird.  Story has it, the reason why he wanted this high-powered engine installed in a 16’ boat was that he was going to race an 18’ Chris Craft Cobra for pink slips and he won.  We are still trying to confirm this, but nevertheless its an awesome story!  The boat is all original, except for the flooring, and in excellent shape.  It comes with a single axel trailer and cover.

Being offered at $37,500
